Maryland Man Busted With Weapons, Drugs At Delaware Hotel: Police

A Maryland man tried to pull a fast one over on police in Delaware following an incident at an area hotel, authorities announced.

Elkton resident Ryan McCool, 41, was arrested by members of the Newark Police Department on gun and drug charges after being arrested while attempting to provide officers with a fake name.

Officers were called to a hotel in the 1100 block of South College Avenue to conduct a welfare check of a person at the hotel.

While investigating, McCool was found to be in possession of a knife, brass knuckles, and a handgun. He was also holding heroin, crack cocaine, and prescription pills.

Officials noted that McCool is prohibited by law to possess a deadly weapon.

Further investigation found that a vehicle parked in the lot of the hotel tied to McCool was reported stolen to the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware.

McCool was arrested without incident and charged with: 

  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person;
  • Two counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person;
  • Criminal impersonation;
  • Receiving stolen property under $1,500;
  • Three counts of possession of drugs;
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held in Delaware in lieu of $28,100 bail, according to police. No information about an impending court appearance has been announced.
